Borges Distinguished at the Grandes Escolhas Awards | Company of the Year 2025
Sociedade dos Vinhos Borges was distinguished with the “Company of the Year 2025” Award at the Grandes Escolhas Trophies, one of the most important distinctions in the Portuguese wine sector, awarded annually by Grandes Escolhas Magazine.
This recognition highlights more than 140 years of Borges’ history, one of the most emblematic Portuguese wine houses, founded in 1884 and currently present in the Douro, Dão and Vinho Verde regions.
With more than 330 hectares of vineyards, wineries in the three mentioned regions and three bottling lines, Borges has a strong international presence, selling its wines in more than 70 countries, with 7.8 million bottles sold in 2025.
For the company, this distinction mainly represents recognition of the work of a dedicated team and the continuous commitment to quality and to the promotion of Portuguese wine.
“ I would like to thank the 140 years of Borges and all the employees who have passed on their know-how to the different generations that followed. Everyone in the company truly ‘breathes’ wine. Today, we control the entire process from vineyard to glass. We recognize that this award belongs to our clients and final consumers. It is for them that we work every day with dedication, commitment and passion, with the goal of producing the best wines in the world,” said Gil Frias, Chief Executive Officer of the José Maria Vieira Group and Board Member of Sociedade dos Vinhos Borges, during the ceremony.
During the same awards ceremony, the following wines were also recognized among the BEST WINES OF PORTUGAL: Borges Alvarinho Estagiado em Barrica Vinho Verde 2024, Borges Colheita Tardia Dão 2023, and Borges TN TN CXL 140 Red (a limited edition commemorating the company’s 140th anniversary).
The history of Sociedade dos Vinhos Borges began in 1884, when brothers António and Francisco Borges started trading wines, laying the foundations of a company that would establish itself over the decades as a reference in the sector. Today, as part of the JMV Group, Borges consolidates its portfolio with remarkable qualitative differentiation across its still wines, Port wines, sparkling wines and brandy.
The distinction awarded by Grandes Escolhas Magazine therefore represents recognition of the consistency of the Borges project and its contribution to promoting Portuguese wine worldwide.
Faithful to the motto that has accompanied the company for more than a century — Res Non Verba — Borges sees this award as further motivation to continue investing in quality, innovation and the promotion of Portugal’s wine regions.
